Can I upgrade to Windows 2000?

Important Notice for Owners of Acer Desktop Computers: If you purchased your computer after May 1, 2000 your BIOS is already Windows 2000 certified. Therefore you should not download any of the BIOS updates from this site. All Windows 2000 BIOS are also fully compatible with Windows 98.

This self-executable file contains the Windows 2000 BIOS for the Acer Power 4400 and Acer Power 8400 series desktop computers. Download to your hard drive then click on 44_48w2k to create a bootable floppy diskette. See the read_me.txt file on the diskette for instructions to update the BIOS.

Please Note: All Windows 2000 drivers for your Acer Power 4400 and 8400 Series computers, with the exception of the Acer TNT2 video card, are included within Windows 2000. If your computer has the Acer TNT2 video card installed, download the driver from this page.  All 4400 and 8400 Series computers have the on-board VIA audio controller, and require the updated driver below.

This self-executable file contains the Windows 2000 driver for the Acer TNT2 video adapter. If your computer has the TNT2 card installed, download this file to your hard drive then click on tnt2_w2k to copy the files to the C:\Acer\Win2k\TNT2 folder. See the readme.txt file in that folder for instructions to update the driver.

VIAAUDW2K.EXE

This self-executable file contains the Windows 2000 driver for the VIA Audio adapter. Download to your hard drive then click on viaaudw2k to copy the files to the C:\Acer\Win2k\VIA folder. See the readme.txt file in that folder for instructions to update the driver.

RA05PW2K.EXE

This self extracting file contains the drivers for the Acer Soft 56K (RA05P) 56k modem for Windows 2000. Download this file to your hard drive, then click on ra05pnt.exe to copy the files to the C:\Acer\Drivers\Modems\RA05P folder. See the readme.txt file in that folder for instructions on loading the drivers.

Note for customers with the Acer RA99P 56K modem.
Windows 2000 may not recognize the RA99P modem, if this happens follow these steps:

  1. When the system prompts for modem driver, point it to C:\WinNT\inf\mdmrpci.inf.
  2. It will detect the RA99P as an HCF 56K PCI Modem.
  3. The default driver used is version 5.0.2167.1 dated on 5/24/1999.
