MLR1 Tape Drive - Wide SCSI 13GB (26GB compressed)

Figure 1

Installation Notes

Mounting drive top- or bottom-flush against a flat surface will impede air flow and cause overheating of the captstan motor.
Allow at least 10mm (0.4 in.) clearance. Recommended mounting position is either horizontal with the LEDs to the left, or vertical with the LEDs down. Drive must NOT be mounted with the cartridge operating upside down.

Cable Note

For AA19000, and AA9000Pro, and AA9000 servers, please replace the current 68-pin, 2-connector cable that connects the main board to the backplane with the enclosed 5-connector cable (shown in Figure 1).

Selecting SCSI IDs

The factory default drive number setting is SCSI ID 6. If the drive must be set as a different ID number, the jumpers must be connected according to Table 1 below.

NOTE: Jumper is installed = Closed

Table 1

Enable/Disable Bus Parity Checking

Figure 4

The drive Parity Checking is enabled by means of a jumper between the ENPAR pin and Ground. (It is disabled when the jumper is not installed).

SCSI-bus Termination

Figure 5

The ENTERM jumper enables active termination on the drive. If external termination is used, the drive must be placed between other SCSI devices on the SCSI bus.

Termination Power

Figure 6

The drive has can supply terminator voltage to other SCSI devices. This is enabled by means of a jumper between the TERMPWR pin and the PWR pin.

Preventive Maintenance

We recommend the following preventive maintenance:

Performa a cleaning operation for every 8 hours of tape running, or after every 7 days of power-on, whichever situation occurs first.

Perform a complete tape wind/rewind operation after any cleaning operation.

The amber LED will light when cleaning is recommended.

ATTENTION

Your drive installation kit contains parts that allow it to be used with a variety of Acer Altos systems. Not all parts will be used on all systems. For details about installing drives, refer first to your system's User's Guide.

WARNING

This drive can be damaged by Electrostatic Discharge. Please follow recommended ESD procedures before unpacking or handling the drive.
