This Patch resolves an Ethernet Controller Adapter (ECA) transmission hang problem. The problem occurs when the ECA driver runs out of transmission resources. The symptom is network hang. The resolution is in the ECA (enc00) driver which causes an automatic reset of the ECA board upon a hang. When this occurs, the following messages will be sent to the console and to /usr/adm/messages:
NOTICE: ecarstboard: ECA 0 reset started.
NOTICE: ecarstboard: ECA 0 reset successfully.
Since the higher level of the network protocol guarantees data transmission, there will be no data loss when the ECA board is auto-reset. On Multiprocessor systems, Patch 1312 must be installed before installing this patch. Patch 1312 disables the multiprocessing support for the ECA.
NOTE: This Patch should not be applied to systems using both channels of a dual-channel ECA board. |
