Explanation of the Additional HDD Partitions

The extra hard disk partitions called AcerData and Acer_Servic are included on the factory-loaded software for the purpose of using D2D Recovery. D2D Recovery is a method of restoring the notebook to factory configurations without using Recovery CD's.

Although these hard disk partitions are provided, the D2D recovery process is not supported on these models and can be removed.

How to remove the extra hard disk partitions:

  1. Enter BIOS by pressing F2 during boot when prompted at the bottom of the screen.
  2. Arrow over to select Boot. Highlight CDROM and move it to the first position using the F6 key.
  3. Place the System CD in the CD-ROM drive.
  4. Exit the BIOS, saving your changes.
  5. When system boots from CD, select the language choice.
  6. Insert Recovery Disk 2-1 when prompted, click OK
  7. The next window states this Recovery CD will install Windows XP Pro, click OK
  8. Click OK for the license agreement
  9. This next window provides three choices:
    • Use existing partitioning, and all data on the drive C: will be lost!
    • Factory default partitioning, and all data on the hard disk will be lost!
    • Customizing partitioning, and all data on the hard disk will be lost!
  10. To remove the hard disk partitions, choose `Factory default´ or `Customize´.
Follow the screen prompts to finish recovery.
