How do I change my tablet and/or pen settings?
  To change tablet and/or pen settings, click on the Change tablet and pen settings icon in the lower right hand corner of your screen. In this section, you can change handedness, pen calibration, screen orientation, screen brightness, button settings, and pen options.

How do I calibrate the Tablet PC pen?

1. Go to StartControl PanelTablet and Pen Settings
2. Tap the Settings tab
3. Under Calibration, tap the name of the screen orientation for which you would like to calibrate your tablet screen.
4. Tap Calibrate
5. Follow the on-screen instructions for calibrating the screen

  Note: You must calibrate the screen for each screen orientation separately.

How do I adjust the screen brightness on my Tablet PC?

1. Go to StartControl PanelTablet and Pen Settings

How do I use a Tablet button?
  To use a tablet button, you must first customize a tablet button to change your screen orientation. To use the "Change Tablet and pen settings" icon in the notification area of the taskbar, tap the icon and then tap Change Screen Orientation. Both a customized tablet button and the Change Tablet and Pen settings icon switch the orientations in the order that you set in Orientation sequence settings.

How can I use the pen to write in my Microsoft Excel or Word files?
  In order to use the Tablet PC features in these applications, you must obtain the Microsoft Office XP Pack for Tablet PC.  This is available only from Microsoft's website.

How do I convert my handwriting to text in Windows Journal?

1. Click the Selection Tool icon on the toolbar.
2. Circle the handwriting that you want to be converted.
3. Click on Actions in the Menu Bar.
4. Then select Convert handwriting to text.

How can I improve handwriting recognition?

• Calibrate the tablet PC pen and screen
• Hold the tablet pen in the same way that you hold a pen or pencil when writing on paper
• Hold the pen near the tip and rest your hand on the screen
• Write using cursive letters in a straight line
• Avoid printing all uppercase letters
• Write legibly, at a constant speed with even spacing between letters and words
• Write uppercase letters larger than lowercase letters
• Avoid empty spaces and letters
• Avoid adding additional words, diagrams, or drawings within existing handwriting in a note

How do I access the Input Panel?
  You can open Input Panel by waving the Tablet pen in a specific way above your tablet screen in a specific way. This is known as a Gesture.  Holding the tip of the pen above the screen but close enough that you can move the pointer with your pen, quickly move the pointer back and forth several times.  Another way to open Input Panel is to tap the icon on the taskbar near the Start button.

Are there special settings for left-handed users?
  The tablet pen and screen settings have a setting for left or right-handed users. Follow these steps to change handedness settings.

1. Double-tap the Change Tablet and Pen Settings icon in the Notification Area of the Windows Taskbar.
2. Under Handedness, select right-handed or left-handed.
3. Under Menu Location, select right-handed or left-handed.
4. Calibrate the pen using the procedures in the article titled "How do I calibrate the Tablet PC pen?"

When should I calibrate the pen?
  The pen should be calibrated any time options in the tablet and pen settings are changed.

How do I use the pen?
You can use the pen the same as you use the mouse, left-click, and right-click buttons.

Click an item on the screen to simulate a left-click.

Hold the Pen button and tap on the screen to simulate a right-click.  NOTE:  The "Use pen button to right-click" option must be checked in the Pen Options tab of the Tablet and Pen Settings.

How can I maximize battery life?

• Decrease the time that elapses before the screen shuts off.
• Decrease the time that elapses before the hard disk shuts off.
• Change the screen brightness.
• Turn off or eject any internal devices not in use, such as a wireless network card.
• Consider setting the hibernation threshold higher.

Note:  To adjust power management settings, go to Control Panel and open the Power Options.

How do I restore default settings in Windows Journal?
  To restore all Windows Journal settings:

1. Click on Tools in the menu bar
2. Choose Options
3. Click on the Other tab
4. Under Restore, click the Restore button

Note:  You can restore all Windows Journal settings to their defaults such as:

• Pen settings
• Highlighter settings
• Menu and tool bar positions

What application would take the place of my paper sticky notes?
You can use Sticky Notes the same as a paper sticky note. 
To open Sticky Notes:

• Click Start, All Programs, and Sticky Notes.

Note: Can contain both writing and voice recording.

How do I create a "Sticky Note"?

1. Launch Sticky Notes.  The application automatically opens to a new note.
2. Start writing on the surface of the note.
3. Click the red record button to record a voice message for a maximum of 30 seconds per note.
4. To create another note, click the New Note button.

How do I reinstall the Journal Note Writer printer?
  If you have accidentally deleted this "printer", replace it as follows:

1. Click on Start
2. Click on Run
3. Type in:  journal /RepairNoteWriter
4. Click on OK
5. Launch the Journal application
